Yesterday afternoon Cricky received an email from a very savvy public relations assistant account executive who shall remain nameless--wait a second, he's PR, for bejeezus' sake, so of course he should be named: Michael Marino--informing me that Cramer-Krasselt will be hosting an event this coming Gallery Night, January 16. Normally I wouldn't respond to the obvious signals emanating from the oh so cold Marketing/PR agency planet, but Marino's email was crafted with such skill--no lie--and the happening seemed to have such promise, that I shushed my internal bohemian voice of snark just long enough to reply.
Turns out that two of C-K's creative team members, associate producer Timm Gable and creative manager Lucian McAfee, have put together a short film/video and 2D art show to celebrate the agency's move to the Historic Third Ward. Quite frankly, it sounds like it you may wanna add this happening to your list of required stops on Friday.
The film/video show highlights the work of seventeen local established, emerging and student artists, and includes live-action, animation, documentary, and experimental shorts:
Carlo Besasie - The Cherry Tree
Tim Hansen - I Tell No Lies
Theodore Brusubardis - CD; Furnace; Writer
Sam Macon - Shut Ins
Shawn Monaghan - Afghan Diaries
Marc Tasman - East Side Dregs
Lisa Gildehaus - Kill It And Cook It With Larry
l.c.dubec - t.v.
Jordan Hansen - Crown of Tin
Jordan Brethauer - Lets Play
Jessica Bayliss - Furry Revolt
Donn Kennedy - Extinguish
Drew Rosas - Digitata
Derek Kimball - I Want You To Know
Bobby Ciraldo, Andrew Swant - Zombie Killer
Annie Killelea - Faces
A. Bill Miller - Compiled Footage
According to Gable, the submission guidelines were simply that the films/videos had to be Milwaukee made and the filmmakers/videographers must be rooted, if not grown, in the area. Also, the finished works had to clock in at 15 minutes or less.
C-K received around 60 submissions and the six member jury panel--made up of members of the creative and broadcast departments at the agency--chose nineteen films and videos total for the event. Fancy high definition televisions and projectors have been setup to show the equally fancy moving pictures.
As for the still art, ten local artists--some of very high caliber--will show their work:
Charles Dwyer
Greg Klassen
Jessie Spiess
Lauren Bartlett
Philip Atilano
Jeff Bowen Ross
Brandon Bauer
Jennifer Farr
Peter Bell
Mitchel Miller
So to recap, Cricky thinks that a trip to Cramer-Krasselt, 246 E. Chicago Street, this Friday from 6-9PM is a mighty good idea. Don't worry, as far as I can tell, these folks won't bite.
Oh, and whoever is in charge at C-K, you should seriously consider giving Marino, Gable and McAfee each a nice raise, or at the very least some yummy cookies, 'cause good work done in a world brimming with the mediocre and sad should always be rewarded.
UPDATE: We've been informed that a 2D artist was mistakenly left off the original list given to us. Angela Nagle will also be displaying her art on Friday, so be sure to check out her work at the show, too.
