Gotta a new album ya wanna promote? How 'bout a groundbreaking play that deserves to be seen by the masses? Maybe you've developed and choreographed an edgy dance piece. Or you're a poet who's überconfident that your insightful words could reach and inspire folks around the country. Whatever it is ya got bubblin' away on the stove, you need to learn how to feed an art-starved people by attending Doing it on the Road: A Guide for Touring Performing Artists on March 28.
Presented by the National Performance Network (NPN) and Alverno Presents, Doing it on the Road is a two hour meeting designed for performing artists who've got the itch to tour but never have, those who are all set to hit the road but don't know where to start, those who've already toured the region but would like to get beyond the Great Lakes, and those looking to expand their tour schedule. So that pretty much covers everyone who doesn't have an unmanageable stage phobia.
The meeting will offer important intel about touring opportunities, and you'll get to meet with local touring performing artists, presenters from the region and NPN staff. Good stuff, right?
NPN is in partnership with 61 art organizations--including Alverno Presents--spanning 36 cities across the US. Its main goals are to help artists create work locally and, in its own words, "to cross geographic and cultural divides to increase the traffic of fresh, challenging artistic work." It's kinda like a crack dealer only the drug it's dealing is your art, so it's relatively healthy for everybody.
Doing it on the Road will be held at Alverno College, 3400 S. 43rd Street, in Milwaukee on Saturday March 28, 2009, from 3:30-5:30PM. You must RSVP by March 15 and you can do so by sending an email to Rory Trainor rory.trainor at alverno dot edu.
Now get out there and dance, sing, play, act and/or read, you crazy performing hairless monkeys!
(Thanks, Rory!)
