Milwaukee's Insurgent Theatre has sounded the ancient call-to-act horn, summoning 3 to 5 thespians to join the fray of the next BERZERK!!! production. Each berzerker--or berserkr in Old Norse--will be expected to give everything they've got in a frenzied, one night only performance based on Shakespeare's King Lear on June 20.
On deck for the evening:
• Monika Walburgh's condensed, 10 minute version of Acts 1-4.
• Two rewrites of Act 5 by a pair of local playwrights who just recently lost their Acts 1-4 virginity.
• A staged reading of The Bard of Avon's original Act 5--compare and contrast!
• A 20 minute, meta-theatre interrogation--that's a super cool way of saying dramatic critical investigation sans the waterboarding--of Shakespeare utilizing Act 5.
Phew! That's a full load, kids. And you've only got one week to sharpen your memorization skills, with a rehearsal scheduled the afternoon of the show.
Okay, so interested berzerkers from all walks of life--not just Scandinavians--should send an email to Ben Turk insurgent dot ben at gmail dot com immediately.
Peeps who'd like to watch the madness on June 20 at 8PM can buy tickets on the The Alchemist Theatre website real soon.
