Two months ago, Cricky was super pleased to help get the call-for-submission word out for the first round of The Soup Chronicles: Micro Funding For Artists. Sponsored by the finely creative folks at Miltown's African-American Artists Beginning to Educate Americans About African-American Art (ABEA), this ingenious art funding endeavor is designed to assist one Wisconsin-based visual artisan per round in creating and completing a single project.
Now that all the submitted proposals have been meticulously viewed, examined and evaluated, we're ecstatic to announce that two projects have been deemed worthy to go mano a mano as they vie for your precious votes. Whoozzah!
In one week and two days, artists Monika Harris and June Schumacher will present their best idea pitches while you merrily ingest scrumptious soup and bread, building your strength up in anticipation of casting the final vote. By the time it's over, you'll be stunned and amazed by a revelation of huge proportions, causing you to knock your forehead and say, "Eating and voting. It's so simple! How could I have lived so long without having this sublime experience?" How indeed.
The Soup Chronicles: Micro Funding For Artists inaugural event is on Saturday, January 23, on the 5th floor of 1718 N. 1st Street in Milwaukee from 12-2PM. $5 gets ya in and it's BYOB--that's Bring Your Own Bowl, NOT Bring Your Own Booze, so save it for later, 'kay? The winning project will receive 90% of the cover collected at the door, with the remaining 10% reserved to support the next Soup Chronicles round--it's a miracle of self-sustainable funding!
Note of Mega-Importance: This is a RSVP event, which means y'all need to contact Della Wells by calling 414-264-5459 or emailing wellsdella at yahoo dot com by January 20.
I'm not gonna kid ya, kids, it's gonna be tough to choose between these two projects and the mental stress may even make ya feel a bit queasy. Just remember that the hardest decisions usually end up being the most rewarding, so relax and enjoy the process.
(Thanks, Della!)
