Music Nuts Take Drum Fill Quiz With Predictable Geeky Results

Robin Hilton at NPR Music's All Songs Considered posted a pop quiz on Wednesday designed to test your Rock And/Or Roll drum fill knowledge, sending pro and amateur air drum enthusiasts--yes, there is such a thing as a pro musical mimic--into frantic conniptions, complete with girlish shrills of "OMG! This is sooooooo much fun!"

Currently there are 173 comments to the post, containing not only answers to the quiz but the usual nitpicky, killjoy remarks found in each and every discussion about music that drives most sensible folks to either run for the hills or order another stiff drink to dull the nagging sound of pointless absurdity. Now doesn't that sound like a hoot? You bet!

There are ten audio clips listed from well known tunes--two of which are a mere and measly one second--so you can prove your outstanding drum geekery once and for all. Though musical scholars have no definitive proof, the best advice for getting a high score has been tentatively attributed to AC/DC's legendary stick jockey Phil Rudd: Don't think, man, just feel.

Play Food Force to Celebrate World Food Day

On this day in 1945 the United Nations formed its first agency to address global hunger, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO). October 16 has since become known as World Food Day in honor of its historic founding.

As FAO's partner, the World Food Programme (WFP) works tirelessly to feed the hungry and starving--a daunting and deadly serious mission that has saved billions of lives the world over. But not everything WFP does is sober and cheerless. To wit, it's created a fun--yes, you heard me, fun--way to teach the general public about what it does and it's called Food Force.

Food Force is a downloadable game in which you play a member of a crack WFP crisis team to coordinate, deliver and feed hungry people on the island of Sheylan in the Indian Ocean. You have six missions to complete: Air Surveillance, Energy Pacs, Air Drop, Locate and Dispatch, Food Run, and Future Farming. You get to fly a helicopter, create a balanced diet to feed the people, drop the food from the back of an airplane, drive a food truck through dangerous territory, and help the community rebuild.
